Charles Ballowe suggested mounting /dev/disk/cdrom0c instead of cdrom0a. That
works.

I coulda swore I tried that sometime yesterday, but ...

The problem was that newer software product CDs would mount, but older ones
would not. Apparently it is related to how the partitions are defined.
