Tape device problem: device busy

I have searched the archives and although I have found many similar questions, I have found no answer.

Q: I have an SDLT drive attached to the local bus of an ES40 in a two node cluster T64 V5.1 PK7.

Due to resource problems, this cluster came to a standstill during a vdump process. Upon rebooot the SDLT still reports device busy upon mt -f /dev/tape/tape2c status.

It is not possible to connect via scu for the same reason.

The device has been power cycled but remains in the same condition. Any advice? Is there a lock file? How can I release this device?

TIA

Lawrie
