NIS 'make' sometimes fails...with 'garbage'...

Hello...

I am running NIS with Enahanced security on a 5.0A system. From time
to time, when I do a 'cd /var/yp;make' to push out nis maps, I get the error
of

'yppush listener: Garbage transaction status (value 4) from ypxfr on
nis-slave server'

This obviously makes nis useless until I get a succesfull push, somtimes
taking 2-3 more 'makes'.

This is VERY bad when it happens automagically overnight and I'm not around
to know it fails.

Is this a known error with a solution? I saw something posted on the
list (http://www.ornl.gov/its/archives/mailing-lists/tru64-unix-managers/1999/08/msg00213.html) about this, where it may be due to too many entries.

On a secondary note - what is the procedure to take a nis slave out of
the nis configuration - i.e. I don't need it anymore as we really only have
2 nis clients - the server itself and 1 other server.

  Thanks for the help!
