As root,

        grep /pthread.h /usr/.smdb./*.inv

I believe you will find it's in the OSFINCLUDE440 subset, which is
one of the optional subsets from the original base OS media. If
it were installed (you need it for most application development
but not for running prebuilt apps, which is why it's optional),
the file would be in /usr/include/pthread.h .
