Good Morning:

As always, I have received many great information. I like to thank to
Uwe Lienig, Chandra, Peter George, Br. Blinn, and Robert Brinkley.

Command dd is the most popular choice; command "scu format" and "diskx" are
also being mentioned. I like to post Dr. Blinn's recommendation:

> 1) Use the "scu" command to tell the disk to do a "format". The format
> operation wipes all existing data off the disk and verifies that it's
> still a good disk.
>
> 2) Use the "diskx" utility (part of the optional "System Exercisers"
> subset, if it's loaded the path is /usr/field/diskx and there is a man
> page for it) to do a "write" test on the disk; this test writes more or
> less random data over the entire disk (if you test the "c" partition)
> and effectively wipes the disk clean, and in the process verifies that
> the disk is functional.

My original posting is:
We have retired several disks. I like to erase all
data from the disks. What
is the best method to accomplish this task on Tru64
V4.0F and V5.0A?

Thanks.

Warren
