Thanks to Premjit Nair for responding. However it was HP/Compaq support
that provided the solution. In the /etc/auth/system/default file the
u_newcrypt#2 was set. This indicates which encryption algorithm to run. I
changed this value to 0 and I can have a max of 80 for chosen password
length.

Subject: Enhanced Security Password Length
Admins,
I am running tru64 unix 5.1 patch kit 5 running enhanced security.
On a specific account I have the max password length at 80 both for
generated and user chosen. I turned password aging on and force this
account to change its password. The problem lies in that it is only
allowing the password length to be 1 - 8 charachters long even though in
dxaccounts I have it set to a max of 80 characters. Any ideas on how to get
this set to where a user can choose a password of more than 8 charachters?
TIA,
Chris Bryant
