To the list:
I have a PWS500a/u running 5.1a as an ArcInfo workstation. I need to
make up some large " Arc export files" to transfer data to a W2000
workstation. I installed a SCSI 100meg Zip drive, which the system
detected and made device files for.
When I tried to use the DOS tools in the file management utility they
wouldn't work. The documentation was pretty slim but i got to the mtools
man page, where it says these utilities are internally referent to the
first floppy disk. The man page said to create a symbolic link (ln -s)
between the Zip drive device file dskXXc and the Floppy device file.
I did that and it returned a direction to use the -f option as weel. I
did that, i can see the link in the /dev/disk directory but the DOS
tools graphic utility still won't work. It returns a msg
"unrecognized media" .
using some of the mtools commands from a terminal window return a msg "
"unable to access drive A:"
i low-level formatted the Zip disk to start out fresh, still no luck.
Has anyone done this sort of thing? What am i missing?
Well, once i figure out Samba, i can hook up a PC and use it, but for
now the Zip drive is all i've got.
