Thanks to all who responded. Especially Jef Hamlin, who was the first and
also provided much needed information and assistance.
The overwhelming response was to use GnuPG (
htttp://www.gnupg.org/gnupg.html ) which is compatible with PGP and also
available for commercial use.
As is often the case, management has decided to go a different direction
with this project, and PGP will not be needed anyway (!x*^_at__at_!!).
I do intend to follow up with it out of interest anyway.
