Thanks to all who have responded, but I still don't have a solution.
The suggestions :
check /etc/host.allow and /etc/host.deny : look okay and shouldn't affect
outbound ftp
check tcpwrapper config : looks okay and, again, shouldn't affect outbound
connections
is ftp in a wrapper : no, same sum as on similar system w/o IX installed
check firewall config : systems on same subnet, not an issue
local firewall : not installed
check DNS : checked
In the hope of getting a solution, here's a more complete description of the
situation :
I have a number of systems, newly installed v5.1a with PK3 + security
patches. I've been successful in ftping from box A to box B ( and others, ie
no problems connecting to/from anywhere ) for several weeks. In order to
simplify the configuration of some web servers for development, I'm
converting from a large app server package that uses Apache to the Internet
Express package. I want to be able to use the wu-ftpd, tcp-wrappers, Apache,
etc.
When I installed IX 5.9 on box A the behavior of /outbound/ ftp from A to B
( and others ) changed and will no longer connect. Inbound ftp to the
wu-ftpd service on box A works correctly.
The IX IAFTP590 subset doesn't install new libraries or and ftp binary, only
the ftpd, so I don't know where the behavior difference is coming from.
