What does cron daemon do when a user is renamed?

We renamed a user account, and since then their crontab jobs (overnight mostly)
have been running twice, despite the fact that:
        * the new user's home directory is different than the old user's dir
        * the old paths that the old crontab points to no longer exist
        * I removed the old crontab completely from the crontabs dir after the
first time we saw the problem.
The fact that the paths are different and thus old crontab should fail just based
on that really baffles me. The rename'd user's crontab has been checked and
double-checked, everything looks fine.

This is on tru64 v5.1a, non-clustered system.

TIA!
