Uwe Richter <ur_at_minet.uni-jena.de> replied to me:
have a look at /etc/sm.bak and delete the files belonging to
machines that are not reachable any more and restart the NFS.
We had some problems with this as the NFS server (inkl. the
rpc.statd) tried to reestablish broken NFS connections but couln't succeed
thus showing itself beeing busy. On the clients you may see the
"NFS server not responding".
This indeed appears to have fixed the problem. Thanks very much!
My original question was:
I have an AS2100 running 4.0E. We have recently found that statd is
misbehaving. The daemon is running but nothing can talk to it. I've
checked the hosts.deny file, but it's ok, and that wraps portmap
anyway, not just statd, and everything else seems to respond just
fine.
I guess I'm not positive this was working ok before, but we started
having NFS locking problems lately and I noticed this when I started
poking around. I didn't used to have problems so I sort of assume it
worked ok before.
Restarting statd and portmap didn't fix it, nor did a reboot.
