LSM 5.1 - 5.1A upgrade problem

After a 5.1 to 5.1a update we seem to have an issue:

Not all but most of the lsm volume pairs are now showing as online aliased
we have tried voldisk define commands and voldisk offline and online but
they remain unavailable

Has anyone seen this error and found a solution other than recreating all
the volumes and restoring from backup ??
