Hi,

thank you all for the fast response

It seems to be not possible with Tru64(s. Tom Blinn). In the meantime
we tried Linux Suse V7.1 and this looks good

"Dr Thomas.Blinn_at_HP.com" <tpb_at_doctor.zk3.dec.com> gave very long
explanation
here only a few sentences:
The information that reports the processor (aka system) type and the
subtype (specific model) is placed by the SRM console into a data
structure called the hardware reset parameter block or HWRPB. Tru64
UNIX retrieves the data from the HWRPB
Tru64 UNIX retrieves the data from the HWRPB (which as I recall from the
Alpha System Reference Manual aka SRM, the book that describes all
kinds of details about how Alpha systems have to work and how the
SRM console makes them look, is in a fixed memory location once the
SRM console has initialized the system) and then uses that data to
decide which platform code needs to be run. There is no platform
code for proc_type 0x7 subtype (aka systype) 0xffffffe5 (which is
a negative number, I suspect) in Tru64 UNIX. So there is no entry
in the init_platform[] vector, and you can't boot Tru64 UNIX on the
platform.

He recommended to try Linux..
(We just ried this in parallel and it seems to work)

"Raul Sossa S." <RSossa_at_datadec.co.cr>
At the SRM console:
1. Set variable os_type set to UNIX.
2. Create and set the variable SRM_BOOT to ON.
3. This must be done as follows:

>>> edit nvram
        # 10 set SRM_BOOT ON
        # exit
>>>
4. Now you might be able to boot at leas Tru64 Unix 4.0g CD.

I tried this already before I posted the problem - but without success

Chris Ruhnke <ruhnke_at_us.ibm.com>
Pointed you that V5.1B would not be supported.

I forgot to mention in my post that I tried to boot a V4.0D CD because I
was not so optimistic at first that V5.1B would run

Regards
Otto
