Reset console port

Bit off topic maybe.

Hi all, I am running Tru64 5.1 on an alphaserver 1200. Today, I accidently did a cat on a directory file while on the console. (Remote console using Unicenter TNG) The funny characters got my screen really, really happy and then no more response to keyboard input. I rebooted my console box(TNG), the terminal server and I ended up powering off the alphaserver and back on.

I even changed my console to graphics, tested access, and finally back to serial mode so that I could access it remotely. I can see everything just fine on the screen but still no response to keyboard input. I have tested the terminal server port and it is fine which indicates the console port still has come kind of problem or the wire suddenly went bad. Is there a way to do some kind of reset on opa0 itself from Tru64? Maybe do something to /dev/console?

Thanks for any advice.
