Tru64 5.1A and NFS to NT.

I need some help straightening out some ideas I have regardings NFS. It has
always been my opinion that NFS is a network hog, the use of which is at
best an annoyance and at worst has generated system hangs, i/o performance
problems, impacts ls -l /, df, and vdump if a connection goes stale.

That being said, my ideas may very well be outdated at this point. I would
like to know what the down sides are to using NFS. The programmers at my
site want to deploy NFS between NT and our largest production server
(GS160). I'm open minded enough to consider the idea again but really need
to know that the admittedly easy use of NFS (vs. writing ftp scripts)
outweighs any potential performance/resource issues.

The specific case involves mounting NFS between Tru64 Unix and NT/XP.
