SUMMARY: Stopping the boot of a 500AU

Thanks to all that responded---there were many--the trick that worked was
several <CNTRL> Cs as the box was coming up. It broke out of the
boot, and went to the >>> prompt. Now I can go in and change the lost root
passwd and reconfig this puppy!
