HSG-80 Hiccup?

Not entirely Tru64 but we had an incident Monday and are looking for
possible
explanations.

One of the disks in our HSG80 based SAN failed. The disk was part of a RAID
1+0 (stripped mirrorsets) unit. By the time I was alerted the controller had
replaced the disk with one from the spareset. My problem is that 2 Oracle
databases crashed when that happened and the system saw some I/O errors.
Everything
came up fine after a reboot, but I thought the technology in the SAN should
have
made such failures unnoticed to the users.

The HSG80 has Software V86F-1, the Tru64 system is running 5.1Apk3, and it
is oracle
v8.1.7.4.

Anybody seen something like that cause a database failure before?
