There are two methods to sole this problem.
1. Install GCC and use the GCC compiler to compile proftpd. -this works.
2. This is a known problem when trying to compile proftpd with the tru64 v5.1x
C compiler. Didier provided a a link to a more up to date version of
proftpd that came from the cvs wich has most of the fixes. Also a modified
configure script was provided by one of the proftpd developers to Didier
which he had forwarded on to me, worked like a dream.
