Hallo,
Hope all of oyu had nice Easter Holidays. I am forced to change the TCP/IP
address of
of a NIS server. The OS of the NIS server id Tru64 v4.0D. It is a DEC3600
machine.
We have about 35 machines configured as NIS slaves connected with this
server.
Can I do the following to change the address. At present I use FDDI to
connect with
Network over the Giga Switch. Afterwards I have to use 10Mbit (I know it
is slower)
Ethernet connetction. I have to remove this Giga switch from the Network.
No replacement.
I have also a 10Mbit card inside the machine. Can I do the follwing step:
1. Use the ethernet connection to connect the network.
2. use the 'setup' command to reconfigure the new network. (what is the
device name ?(ln0?)
3. whether I need any new entry for the new network device in
/sys/conf/MACHINENAME?
4. Whether I need a new kernel(vmunix)? (I did such changes for the
Gigabit card in another machine, an Alpha4100)
4. Make change in /etc/rc.config for the new IP address? What is the de
5. Once I reboot the this server. is it enough when I make the IP address
change on all the slaves and
reboot these systems?
I am perhps wrong with the sequence. I will appreciate very much if
someone can write the
sequence of operation which I have to do without interrupting the
operation of other machines.
Thanks in advance,
Kumar
