Hi,

Thanks for the quick replies i received from Dicko
Hamadoun (run scu and format from there),Chris Runke
(look at "/usr/field/disx" ....) and Richard Jackson,
who summarized them all as shown below. I will give
this a try. If it wont work as advertised, i will post
back, otherwise, this SUMMARY is solid.

***********RESPONSE*************
It has been said that NSA is able to read 6 layers of
data on disk
media
but the heads in our disk drives are not strong enough
write that deep.

What I did is boot off the Tru64 UNIX 4.0G media, exit
to the shell,
and
run zeero on each disk drive at least six times.

For example,

. insert Compaq Tru64 UNIX Version 4.0G Operating
System Volume 1,
AG-QTM9H-BE
. >>> boot dka100
. select UNIX shell... (select UNIX Shell,
'restart' will
return)
. cd /dev
. ./MAKEDEV rz2
. /usr/lbin/zeero -df /dev/rrz2c (do
this six times)

Low level format may be more dangerous than it is
worth.

I have used dilx to clear out data on HSZ40 devices.

For example,

. HSZ> run dilx
. y (run only when there is no
host activity?)
. y (Do you wish to perform an
Auto-Configure?)
. y (All data will be destroyed?)
. 10080 (execution time)
. 60 (performance summary interval)
. y (include performance stats in
perf. summary?)

Good luck,
Richard Jackson
