Hi:
About a week ago we had an unplanned power outage that has affected one
Seagate ST39173W 9GB drive. The disk is attached to a Compaq XP1000
running OSF 4.0E. Since the power failure I haven't been able to get the
drive online and am sort of stumped as to whether the disk is dead or if
it still might be usable in some part. When booting the disk shows up on
the console during boot time but returns an error code stating it is not
ready. I then used scu from a command line prompt to try and verify the
media and got the following:
# scu -f /dev/rrz8c verify media
scu: 'read capacity' failed, EIO (5) - I/O error
scu: Sense Key = 0x2 = NOT READY - Logical unit is NOT ready,
Sense Code/Qualifier = (0x4, 0) = Logical unit not ready, cause not
reportable
The error log then shows:
# uerf -R | more
uerf version 4.2-011
(122)
