proftpd not accepting password > 8 chars ?

hi all,

sorry, this is a re-submission of my problem
because i have given out an incorrect email address.

my correct one is 'fleun_at_doh.health.nsw.gov.au'

I have installed proftpd 1.2.8 on my T64 V5.1A machine
with C2 security turned on.

Although T64 can accept password longer than 8 chars.,
'proftpd' always returns with incorrect ftp login if the
password has more than 8 characters.

Has anyone experienced the same problem and is there a simple
fix for it? I still want proftpd to rely on the T64's password
file, ie not using it own one.
