Ok, I can now execute mt commands after calling HP support and checking the
cableing. Now when I execute the following command

        /sbin/vdump -0 -x8 -u -N -f /dev/ntape/tape1_d1 /

I get the following

vdump: can't open dev </dev/ntape/tape1_d1>; [13] Permission denied

Any ideas?

TIA,

Chris

Subject: Cannot access tape device

Admins,

        I have an alpha 4100 running 5.1B pk 1. I have connected a MSL5026
with one SuperDLT tape drive. I checked to see if I had a valid path to the
tape drive and the changer which I have and I can control the changer via
the media robot utility. However, I cannot execute a mt command or a vdump
command. When I first executed a vdump I was getting permission denied
error. However now when I do a vdump or a mt command it just hangs. Any
Ideas? I will summarize.

TIA,
