We have resolved our problem with writing large files with various
applications and via NFS on our Tru64 5.1A PK5 servers.
I had originally dismissed patch t64kit0019900-v51ab23-e-20030906 as not
applicable because it was described as fixing:
"Under certain circumstances, memory corruption can occur when a non-Tru64
UNIX NFS client attempts to increase the size of an AdvFS file."
We were not using any non-Tru64 NFS clients; all of our cliets which had
problems were running Tru64 5.1A. And we were not seeing the crash
described for that patch - our servers weren't crashing at all, just failing
to complete large writes!
But I thought it was worth trying, when Charles Ballowe in this list
reported write errors from Oracle after applying PK5 to a 5.1A system - it
was similar to what we had seen with our apps (we didn't apply PK5 to our
Oracle servers, so didn't see his exact problem). In Charles' summary, he
stated that he was told to apply t64kit0019900-v51ab23-e-20030906, so I
thought it worth trying in our situation.
That patch has fixed the problems on all of our servers, both the NFS write
errors and the local file creation errors.
