Several people suggested that one of the options buried in the GUI
was to switch back to the text console. I eventually found it, I'll
paste the directions Travis Ostachuk sent me:

Once I told did the power cycle the system booted up into Tru64
without any problems. (I think the GUI Console can't recognize UNIX
partitions, so that's why I though the HD had crashed).
