I have a Unix machine that has about 200 ICMP redirect route entries in the route table. This is normal and expected for the network addresses getting redirected back to the Unix host. However, some of them havn't been touched forever, but they still persist in the route table. My question is... is there a timeout value for these, or do they persist until they are manually removed or modified? As a more general question, is there a timeout value for any and all route entries, such as there are on dedicated network routers (i.e. cisco) and MS computers? A redirected route entry on a MS computer's route table will drop off if it isn't touched again in X number of miliseconds. Something like a "ipRouteAge" or ttl for Tru64?
