Hi
I have salvaged an old Seagate STT20000N tape drive which uses Travan 20Gb
tapes. It's SCSI-connected to a DEC AlphaStation DS20 running 5.1B with
patch kit 1. It seems to successfully write to the tape media, but then
won't read back. For instance:
# restore -if /dev/tape/tape1
Tape read error: I/O error
is a typical error when trying to recover a dump. A similar error occurs
when trying to untar.
# tar -tf /dev/tape/tape1
tar: [offset 0]: I/O error
# mt -f /dev/tape/tape1 status
gives some errors, such as:
mt_erreg 0x5 Illegal CDB parameter
status 0x2A00 Device requeset illegal/unsupported
ASC/ASQ = 24/0 Invalid field in CDB
All suggestions gratefully received.
