Thanks to everyones input. I used Alan Rollow's
response as the summary. The FRU gave a lot of good
information, but I think to be sure, the best way is
to have the system down and do a show config or show
memory, or simply open the box.
----------
1. Shutdown and use the console "SHOW MEMORY" or
similar
command to see.
2. Open the box and look.
3. Get the QuickSpecs and see whether your amount of
can only be configured one way. Your 1 GB
example,
is probably a case where this doesn't work.
4. For systems that write a FRU table, install the
appropriate service support tool (DECevent or
WEBES/SEA) and pick through the configuration
data, to see if the DIMMs are individually
identified
as FRUs. For a DS20E, WEBES/SEA is the
appropriate
tool.
If you browse to the WEBES port number (7902), you
can
probably use the Configuration Entries tab of the
display
for a Full View to see the configuration data. From
the
command line, I think "wsea fru" is sufficient.
My system (an AlphaServer 1200) isn't one supported
by
WEBES, so I can't offer a clue what you'll be looking
at. There's an example DS20E error log file in the
kit examples directory, but I couldn't find the
memory
data with a quick look. It may not be there, but if
it is, it will be the only way to find out without
shutting down the system.
