A couple of suggestions to use a umount with -f. This unfortunately did not
work, although I got a time-out error instead of the eternal hang.
Then it was suggested to use the "soft" argument for the mount. Although
this was mentioned in the man pages for "mount", there was no mention of it
in the "fstab" man pages. Some further correspondence determined that I
could add the "soft" entry in the comma separated mount options. Fantastic.

Subject: NFS client share causing ls -l to hang
Running Tru64 Unix 5.1B. We have set up NFS sharing on our Windows servers
and have mounted to them. When one of the Windows servers goes down, the
Unix server will hang when trying to do an "ls -l" but not an "ls" command.
I have tried to unmount this share but that just causes it to hang also.
How can I umount or remove this share when the NFS server on a Windows
server is down?
