Hi,

first, thanks for the big amount of answers that generally led into two
directions:
1) some told me that "addvol" is not suitable for root_domain

- if so, a question to the the HP-Responsibles for the Patch-Kit 6:
why the "Patch Installation Guide" proposes "addvol" as a neccessary feature
to increase the root_domain ???

2) others told me about possibilities to create and enable bigger root
partitions.

Finally I came to the conclusion not to use a "rolling-patch".
After getting agreement with my "users", I performed dupatch successfully and
reduced the time for the whole procedure, succeeding after 4-5 hours.

Martin

Subject: addvol-error

Hi managers,

-running TruCluster V5.1a PK4 on an 2-ES40/HSG80-Cluster
-planning an OS-patch with PK 6 this weekend

In order to do a "rolling patch", I need more space on "cluster_root" !

-"cluster_root", "cluster_usr" and "cluster_var" are on mirrored HSG80-disks

Having free space (dsk3g) on the same mirrored HSG80-disks, I tried:

# addvol dsk3g cluster_root

receiving the message:

addvol: error = E_TOO_MANY_VIRTUAL_DISKS (-1145)
addvol: Can't add volume '/dev/disk/dsk3g' to domain 'cluster_root'

Trying:
# addvol dsk3g cluster_usr
worked fine !!

Any idea what causes this error ??

Demand for quick response as the patch is scheduled for the weekend,

thanks in advance

Martin Körfer
