Program unpredictably killed by SIGFXSZ

One of my users' codes is being killed by this signal, but not
reproducibly. The same invocation on the same hardware (ES45,
TruCluster 5.1B) sometimes runs correctly and sometimes is killed by
this signal (about one run in 200 fails, according to the user)

It looks like something to do with file size, but I've checked ulimits,
and the user doesn't have an artificially low file size limit.

Before today I'd never even heard of this signal - anyone know what
generates it?

Thanks

Tim
