Managers,
Thanks to those that responded. This problem was a little
strange. I ended up working with HP support.
I had attempted to connect a VT320 terminal to the serial port,
setting the "console" variable to "serial" & booting the OS CD,
but got a message saying "The system does not have a console
configured" & crash. Support had me run "ecu" with the dumb
terminal connected & the "console" variable set to "serial",
then boot the OS CD. This worked. Once I had the Tru64 UNIX
V5.1B installed I shutdown the system, changed the "console"
variable back to "graphics", ran "ecu" booted the system. The
console worked just fine. I then shutdown & booted the OS CD.
This worked as well.
I don't really know why I had the problem to begin with, since
I had run "ecu" several times while trying to resolve the
problem before seeking help. I'm just happy that it is working
now.

The original question is below:
I am attempting to install Tru64 UNIX V5.1B on an AlphaServer
2100 5/300 with a Compaq Qvision 1024/E EISA Video controller.
I boot from the Operating System CD & when it attempts to
display the graphic interface for installation all I get is a
small colored block on the screen that moves as I move the
mouse.
I have performed this same procedure on an AlphaServer 2000
4/200 with the same video card & it works just fine.
I have run ecu from a V1.11A diskette.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this.
Thank you,
