Fellow Tru64 UNIX admins,

We are trying to evaluate Business Copy and see if it will help us reduce our cold backup window in our R/3 Environment. We had several questions with regards to this tool and wanted to see if there were others who had gone down this path and what their experience had been.

a. Are you using Business Copy on EVA5000s with Tru64 UNIX systems to reduce your cold backup window?

b. If the answer to the first question is yes, can you share any sort of "benchmarks" or timings about how long does it take to clone xxx number of Gigabytes of data? Is the process linear or parallel - Does it take the same amount of time to clone a 100GB and 1TB or is it linear in that it adds up as the number of Gigabytes that one is trying to clone increases? Any sort of results/numbers/experiences you can share would be great.

c. The Tru64 UNIX OS tends to increment the dsk numbers everytime the snapped/cloned VDISKS are presented to the Backup Server. Is there any way around it?

d. When we submit the clone command to the SAN Appliance, it comes back in a few seconds and lets you know that the job/script has completed but the cloning continues in the background. Is there a way, we can tell that the cloning operation has completed via scripts/SSSU short of signing on to the SAN Appliance and making sure that the yellow bulb on each VDISK has gone away or that the operation has completed.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Tks & Rgds,
