Summary: Samba Problem

I never posted the question on the site, but the solution was a little
odd, so I thought I would provide it for future reference.

I was called in to look at a problem with Samba running on a Tru64
version 5.1B system. It seems that one user of a group could access the
samba share but another user could not (authentication error).

Initial testing showed that the problem was not with the password being
supplied as the same user ID/password pair worked fine for regular log
in. Similarly, investigation of the group and password files didn't
show any problems.

Looking at the detailed session log showed that the log in was failing
with a reference to OFS_SECURITY_ENH. The system was running base
security and was not in enhanced security mode.

Quick check: edauth -g <user that worked> returned an error that the
user had no entry. edauth -g <user that failed> returned a complete record.

After confirming that the system was supposed to be running in base
security mode, the offending entries were removed from the protected
password database and the problem was resolved.
