I did no prolonged hardware testing of the box,
but replaced it. It has served us for a long period
with little hassle and my spare machines are all gone.

I let Peter summarize:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a listing of the Serial ROM LED codes for the DEC 3000 Model 800
which is the successor of the Model 500.
For F0 it says to:
1 Verify that there is a secure connection between the system
module and the I/O module. Verify that all power cables are connected
correctly.
2 Verify that all memory SIMMs are properly installed. Reseat the
MMBs and SIMMs if necessary.
(This has never helped for me, even though I cleaned off all the years
of dust and dirt inside these machines.)
3 Replace system module.
4 Replace I/O module.
This, by the way is the solution for all the Fx (Serial ROM) LED codes.
In either case, this means your machine is finished unless you have some
spare parts that you can cannibalize from something lying around. These
bits cost thousands of dollars.
