I've received several good suggestions. I've tried several of them to
no avail but the one that looks the most promising was brought to my
attention by Antoine Morpain at HP:
This looks like the "Premature TCP Connection Termination" issue; Make
sure you have the patch or are at a later patch-kit level.

The original 5.1A PK6 (BL24) ERP kit identified in this EA contained a
kitting error that prevented the kit from being installed on NHD7. This
EA is being updated to include the location of the corrected 5.1A PK6
kit.
DESCRIPTION
A potential problem in HP Tru64 UNIX V5.1B PK3/BL24 and V5.1A PK6/BL24
can cause a premature TCP connection termination to occur when backups
or large print jobs are performed over the network.
SCOPE
The following versions are affected:
HP Tru64 UNIX V5.1B PK3 (BL24)
HP Tru64 UNIX V5.1A PK6 (BL24)
Has anybody applied this patch? Did you apply it to fix this problem?
Did it work? Were there any issues after you applied it? i.e., did this
patch cause any other issues?
I will try this on a couple of test machines we have but since we're
only experiencing this issue on our production machine I will likely
have to apply it there anyway.
Thank you!
Andy
