SUMMARY: Caching of passwd entries

Thanks to Rob Leadbeater, who got in first with the correct
solution: Thou Shalt Always Edit They passwd File With vipw.

Apologies for any duplicate messages you've received from me this
morning - mail client troubles, entirely my own fault.
