DST patched JDK 1.3.1 kit for Tru64 5.1B available from HP

Knowing that we have struggled preparing our
applications that reside on Tru64 5.1B for the
upcoming US DST changes on March 11, I thought it
would be helpful to mention a recent discovery in this
area.

HP has created a patched release of Sun's JDK 1.3.1
for Tru64 that incorporates DST patches. This release
is based on Sun's 1.3.1-19 release. Currently, HP
support is only providing this JDK version upon
customer request. It isn't clear if this will become
a generally available JDK release (one that is added
to their Tru64 Java download pages or not).

We found various 3rd party software (Oracle products,
BEA products) that only required that the existing JDK
1.3.1 on Tru64 be made DST ready in order for the 3rd
party software to be DST ready. Before HP made this
new JDK release available, there was no DST ready JDK
1.3.1 release for Tru64 (although other platforms had
this), so we were looking at having to do 3rd party
software package upgrades on a very compressed
schedule. This new JDK release provides a speedier
option.

Hopefully this will help other Tru64 shops that are
preparing for DST.

Thanks,

Tom
