Hi,
Sorry for the long delay in responding, but it took some time to
verify the fix. It turns out that kit 6 fixes a longstanding problem
with libpacl.so, but in the process breaks TSM.

At the time I originally sent this, the official response was to
roll back to kit 5 and apply the DST patch specific to kit 5:
T64KIT1001097-V51BB26-E-20070130. Joshua Romero confirmed that this
route does work.

Mike Morawsky from HP worked with us to get a patch and Jean-Marc
Vincent from HP gave us enough info for a work-around until HP could
provide us with the patch. We didn't try the work-around, but Mark
Alexander reports good luck with it: Copy a kit 5 version of libpacl.so
from before the patch, you should have it in the patch backups, to an
alternate directory instead of /usr/shlib. Add it to LD_LIBRARY path
and export LD_LIBRARY_PATH prior to dsmc (the TSM program) running. You
should apply it only to dsmc, since it is unclear how other code will
react to the old library.

Subject: Tru64 5.1B kit 6 bad interaction with Tivoli Storage Manager
(TSM)

Hi,
We have started installing patch kit 6 for 5.1B. We are currently
at 5.1B-3 (kit 5). After a heads-up from HP support on another problem
that we were working on, we found that kit 6 does not play well at all
with IBM's TSM (we are currently at version 5.1.6, although the latest
version for Tru64 is 5.1.8), which we use for backups. Our TSM admin
has been working with IBM and HP on this, but no solution yet.

What we understand so far is that there was a library change in kit
6 that broke TSM. IBM considers Tru64 end-of-life, so they hadn't put
much effort into this so far. We have a maintenance contract and 5.1.6
is supported so we may get some help from that end. HP has expressed
concern. They originally alerted to the problem, and is trying to work
with IBM on a fix. It is not clear at this time whether the fix will be
a patch to TSM, Tru64 or both.

We are aware of patch T64KIT1001097-V51BB26-E-20070130 which should
get us past March 11, but would prefer kit 6 for other updates.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone else with this issue so that
we can share notes and a fix when/if it comes out.
