Printing

The Euro symbol can be printed correctly, provided the printing device and its fonts also support the Euro character. In cases where the printer ROM fonts do not contain the Euro, printing the Euro is possible, but may require that the printing options be set so that the documents are downloaded using soft fonts or bitmaps.

Steps to adjust your printer settings:

From the "Control Panel", Double click the "Printers" icon.

If you have multiple printers, select the printer you are using.

From the "File" menu, select "Properties".

Click the "Fonts" tab, select the "Always use TT fonts" option" and click "OK".

MS Internet Explorer

For best results, upgrade to the latest version of MS Internet Explorer. Earlier versions of Internet Explorer may have trouble displaying the Euro properly. Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1 is fully Euro compliant and is a free download from the Microsoft Web Site: http://www.microsoft.com/ie.

Don't use the Euro in certain names

Applications will not recognize it in a filename. The Euro cannot be typed in DOS mode, and you won't be able to access files with the Euro in the filename in DOS mode or over a network.  Although Windows supports the Euro in filenames, for maximum compatibility, it should be avoided.

Language applicability of the Windows 95 Euro patch

You must apply the correct language version of the patch on your Windows 95 machine. Do not apply the patch on a Windows 98 machine. Windows 98 already supports the Euro. Additional Euro compliant fonts for all Euro-ready versions of Windows can be downloaded  from http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fontpack/

The NumPad method to enter the Euro

Turn on the NumLock key if it is not already on. Holding the Alt key and press "0128" from the NumPad.

If you are using Russian or Cyrillic keyboards, press "0136" instead.

Shortcut key conflicts

Some applications might use a shortcut key which conflicts with the key assigned to the Euro. In this case, you can use the NumPad method.

Keyboards without the Euro

Some keyboards do not support the Euro, such as the US keyboard. You can use the NumPad method or the US international keyboard where the Euro can be entered using AltGr+5

(press the 5 key while holding the right Alt key).

NotePad

NotePad cannot display the Euro symbol because it uses an old font which is not Euro-ready.

Accessibility and Euro

Euro is not supported on an English Windows 95 system with accessibility enabled. This is a known limitation that only applies to the English platform.

Loss of Euro support

The Euro patch copies many Euro-ready files to your machine. Subsequent installations of system components or applications might replace some of these files with files which are not Euro-ready. You can always reapply the patch to regain the Euro support.

Before You Install the European Currency Support for Windows 95

It is recommended that you quit all applications before installing the European Currency Support for Windows 95.

Installing the European Currency Support for Windows 95

If you are using version 3.x of Microsoft Internet Explorer and you choose "Run this program from its current location" instead of "Save this program to disk", you may get an Authenticode error message. You should click Yes to continue installing the euro currency update. To avoid this error in the future choose "Save this program to disk", or upgrade to Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later.
