Adding and installing desktop themes

Desktop themes create a comprehensive world of color and sound on your desktop, folders, sounds, mouse and pointers. Windows 98 offers a rich assortment.

Here's how to apply a theme:

  1. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Desktop Themes icon.
  3. In the Themes list, click the theme you want. Windows 98 previews it for you, and then you can click the Pointers, Sounds, etc. button to see if you like it.
  4. You can choose to apply only the components of the desktop themes that you want by clicking to add or remove the check mark in the Settings column. After you have the desktop theme the way you want it, click OK.

If the Desktop Themes icon does not appear in Control Panel, here's how to add it:

  1. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  3. Click the Windows Setup tab.
  4. In the Components list, click Desktop Themes.
  5. Click OK. You may need to insert the Windows 98 CD.
