How to tell if your computer has a sound card installed

Most new computers come with sound cards, but if you are not sure if your computer has one, it's easy to find out.

  1. From the Windows 98 desktop, click My Computer with the right mouse button.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Click the Device Manager tab.
  4. Select View devices by type.
  5. Click the plus sign next to Sound, video and game controllers.  If you have a sound card, it will appear in the list of items displayed.
