Creating
high-performing applications
To help
developers create high-performing applications for Windows NT Alpha, Compaq offers the
NT-Atom Tool Development Framework (TDF). Using NT-Atom, developers can generate valuable
data about executable programs data that can be used for debugging and analyzing
performance. Basic block counters, cache simulators, and profilers are examples of
analysis tools that can be created using NT-Atom. |

The NT-Atom TDF
allows developers to instrument executable programs by inserting instrumentation points at
procedure, basic block, or instruction boundaries. At run time, the program executes
normally while the instrumentation points invoke routines that generate debugging and
analysis data.

A white paper in .pdf
format entitled Moving Atom to Windows NT
for Alpha is also available. The paper discusses the challenges of migrating Atom
to Windows NT from Compaq's Tru64 UNIX and the features of Atom that facilitate
developing, maintaining, and deploying custom analysis tools.
