Compaq Tru64 UNIX V4.0FHighlights
DescriptionThe Compaq Tru64 UNIX operating system can handle the most demanding business and technical challenges in the industry. According to industry analysts, Tru64 UNIX on Alpha architecture provides leadership performance, scalability, and robustness in today's UNIX market.(Note: The DIGITAL UNIX operating system has been renamed to Tru64 UNIX. This product, when shipped from Compaq, will be referred to as Compaq Tru64 UNIX. Refer to the article "Compaq's DIGITAL UNIX Renamed Tru64 UNIX" for details on the name change.) Compaq Tru64 UNIX V4.0F, the latest release of the Tru64 UNIX operating system from Compaq, is a system upgrade for users of versions 4.0D and 4.0E and is fully binary compatible with previous versions of the operating system. This release provides leadership commercial and technical features such as support for the latest Alpha 21264 platforms and TruCluster V1.6 software, which includes disaster tolerance capabilities and FibreChannel switched support. Version 4.0F also provides enabling technology to deliver new hardware support for systems and peripherals without requiring a new release of the operating system. Tru64 UNIX V4.0F also provides a highly flexible and scalable printing system for enterprise production printing, enabling technology for future support of hardware partitioning on Compaq AlphaServer GS140 systems, enabling capability for future I20 I/O standard support, and more features that contribute to keeping Compaq Tru64 UNIX in the lead for best enterprise UNIX. Availability and orderingCompaq Tru64 UNIX V4.0F is scheduled to be available in March 1999.
The CompaqTru64 UNIX operating system license provides a licensed user the right to use the software as described in the Software Product Description document. Separate licenses are available for the right to use the development tools and the C compiler, and the Remote Installation Service. The Software Media kit includes CD-ROMs containing the operating system binaries and complete Tru64 UNIX online documentation. Hardcopy start-up documentation is also included in the media kit, including the Installation Guide, Release Notes, and Technical Overview. The Software Documentation kit is a complete hardcopy documentation set for Compaq Tru64 UNIX, excluding the reference pages. The hardcopy reference pages can be ordered separately. The Software Documentation kit contains versions of the documentation found online via the CD-ROM, as well as additional documentation published by companies other than Compaq. Most documentation provided with Tru64 UNIX that is published by companies other than Compaq is available in hardcopy only. The Technical Overview document provides a detailed description of the Tru64 UNIX operating system, and is available both on line and in hardcopy version with the End User documentation.
