The Compaq AlphaServer ES40
Mainframe performance at a mid-level price point The AlphaServer
ES40 system -- the fastest ever built at this price point -delivers personal mainframe computing power at a fraction of the
cost while eliminating the need for a large, centralized computer
room.
In essence, the AlphaServer ES40 system combines the integrity of
a proven performer with the cutting-edge innovations that have
made Compaq a world leader in business-critical server systems.
Cluster Base Systems are ideal for deploying Compaq NonStop(TM)
eBusiness solutions in areas such as:
- E-commerce
- Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
- Enterprise Applications (EA)
- Global Value Chain (GVC)
- Business Intelligence (BI)
- Knowledge Management (KM)
Highly developed clustering capabilities
Based on the world's first and fastest 64-bit architecture,
the AlphaServer ES40 Cluster Base System also benefits from the
robust and proven Compaq Tru64 UNIX or Compaq OpenVMS operating
systems with highly developed clustering capabilities for
application and database solutions in a wide range of industries;
for example:
- Telecom
- High Performance
- Technical Computing
- Service providers
- Financial Services
- Government
- Manufacturing
- Healthcare
Compaq Tru64 UNIX clustering
With TruCluster Production Server software and the high-speed,
low-latency Memory Channel interconnect, Tru64 UNIX supports the
industry's most robust and easy-to-manage UNIX cluster capability.
System resilience, 24x7 availability, dynamic load balancing, easy
addition of nodes, and proven system management tools are all
features of V5.0A and easy to implement with Cluster Base Systems.
To ensure fast and easy Tru64 UNIX application deployment, Compaq
is actively working with a number of major Independent Software
Vendors to validate application failover capabilities on the
Cluster Base System. To date, Oracle 8i and Oracle Parallel
Server have been validated. Soon, Compaq's self-certification
program will make it possible for the thousands of Tru64 UNIX
ISVs to validate their applications for cluster failover as well.
Compaq OpenVMS clustering
OpenVMS clustering sets the standard for the industry. It delivers
ultra-high availability, resource sharing, scalability, load
balancing, and world-class performance. Plus, for investment
protection, OpenVMS clustering supports VAX and AlphaServer systems,
and the OpenVMS operating system supports interoperability with
Windows NT and Tru64 UNIX.
What's more, the state-of-the-art soft partitioning capabilities
of Compaq OpenVMS Galaxy software enable the customer to run
multiple instances of OpenVMS on a single AlphaServer system.
OpenVMS Galaxy instances can be clustered either within a single
AlphaServer system, or outside of and across AlphaServer systems.
With Cluster Base Systems, the attributes of OpenVMS clustering
, including high-performance and 500-mile separation for
disaster tolerance -- are easier than ever to achieve. And, all
applications running on OpenVMS benefit from cluster-wide,
synchronized access to data from all nodes in the OpenVMS
cluster.
