Linux/Alpha EM86
Running
Linux/x86 applications on Linux/Alpha
Using
components of the award-winning DIGITAL FX!32 technology,
Linux/Alpha EM86 is a software emulator that lets you run
Linux/x86 software, without modification, on Linux/Alpha
systems. Here's the story that led to this product.
|
Linux |
While
a student at the University of Helsinki, Linus
Torvalds wrote the original version of Linux, an
operating system intended to bring UNIX like
capabilities to x86 PCs. Linux is freeware,
covered by the copyleft of the GNU
Public License. The source code can be ported to
other platforms.
|
Linux/Alpha |
Linux
developers worldwide, working with a team from
Digital Semiconductor, created Alpha/Linux -- a
fully 64-bit implementation that provides
high-quality, high-performance connectivity and
supports the same Application Programming
Interface (API) as Linux running on other
platforms. Linux/Alpha is now available on
numerous Linux distributions. For
extensive information about Linux/Alpha,
including how to obtain the software, refer to
the Linux/Alpha
home page.
This site also includes a useful FAQ.

Now
Linux/Alpha EM86 is available for emulating
Linux/x86 applications on Alpha. Like the
operating system, it's free! It
supports statically linked and dynamically linked
x86 ELF32 binaries,
iBCS-2 compliant
executables, and
interoperation with native Alpha code.
