The initial question:

The answers (since I proposed two possibilities):

  1. "lpr does this. -N2 etc are supported." "since V1.3"
     I can't find but you'll not find me claiming to be an expert at this.
     It's not in the man pages of either of our OSF/1 boxes (v1.3 and v2.0b)
     but we may very well have left out critical bits when we installed the
     system software. "Nah, we won't need *that* stuff." :^)

  2. "Check out ... a demo of LPSprint software for OSF"
     Hey, we're a cheap bunch around here. It's free software or nothing -
     it's not like we're an IS dept and only use packages with 3+ digit
     price tags.

  3. "Go with mpage" "There's always nenscript, but mpage seems ... better"
     This falls in nicely with the Cheap-Software-R-Us mentality and I've
     found mpage and also nenscript - haven't tried either, yet.

<a href=ftp://mcsun.eu.net/os/linux/util/text/nenscript-1.13++.bin.tar.z>nen</a>

  4. "a macro package ... called PSUtils"
     Another candidate for us - and I found PSUtils at a number of European
     aftp sites - no luck using my local Archie to find North American sites,
     though. Just another excuse to bash on the Trans-Atlantic ...
