OSF/1 1.3 to OSF/1 3.0 Upgrade on a Alpha 3000/400

I am going to upgrade to 1.3 to 3.0 and install several utilities which
I currently am not using. I know that some of these items may have been
discussed in previous mailings but not all of them. I don't know where
the ftp site is anymore for the FAQ and old questions. This is a
mission critical file server WS which stores our patient data so I can't
have the leisure of fixing major problems after the fact. I've
installed and upgraded UNIX OSes on several types of computers so I'm
aware of being able to go back to the old version of the OS.

Item 1: What extra-ordinary precedures do I need to do to do the upgrade?
(I know I must upgrade the firmware level and it must be a
                        complete reinstall.)

Item 2: I'm installing DECNET/OSI to communicate with ours MACs and our
Microvax besides all of our Dec WS (which are not using the OSI
            for DECNET.) Any problems, tricks?

Item 3: I have to switch from lvm to ADVfs or the license manager which
comes with OSF/1 3.0. Any tips, suggestions. We have 2 2Gbyte
disk drives storing our patient data and that has been working
well with lvm(which is no longer supported with 3.0).

Item 4: I want to use Vbackup which will help us shutdown our Microvax
so we can read old patient data. Does it read binary files
well? There was a question about this on the group but I was
                unsure of the outcome.

Item 5: I am going to use the latest version of mx (DECmigrate) since we
have not ported our X/11 Windows software yet to the Alpha or Motif.
How much better than the previous versions of mx.

Item 6: How good is the Fortran compiler? We have some large Fortran
programs from the old days we want to re-compile on the Alpha
which the authors don't have interest in writing in C.

Item 7: I'm using a Storage Works cabinet with 2 2-GB disk drives built
in (SCSI II ID 6 and 7). How do I install a Exabyte (SCSI I) tape
drive in the SCSI chain since all of the SCSI id numbers are
accounted ( 5 are unused) for in the Storage Works? Can I just use
say ID 4 for the external Exabyte drive and plug it in front of the
SCSI chain? There will be a mix of SCSI II and I devices. I
backup the Alpha remotely and have not had to use my backup
            tapes yet!!!

Item 8: Finally, is there like an ftp site or a file that contains all of
the public domain software filenames that compile and run on the
64 bit Alpha? Gnu software, graphics packages, etc... It would
be nice to try to have a comprehensive one and beneficial, also.

I'll post on different items if anyone desires.
Thanks!!
