question regarding 3000/900 relative to 2100 4/275

I'm looking to support a fairly intensive set of scientific math/stat
and Oracle database applications, and have been trying to decide between
a 3000 model 900 and a 2100 4/275. The user load will be 32+ concurrent
users all running Oracle V7, SAS, SPLUS, Mathmatica, and custom C and
Fortran programs doing statistical modeling. I'd also like to do some
NFS serving from the box. Does anyone have any practical experience
with handling this type of load on either of these machines running
OSF/1? I initially considered the 2100 series due to it's expansion
capacity and clock speed, but I've heard the IO throughput on the 900's
is better, and ultimately may serve better in this application. I'd
appreciate any feedback.
