Hi managers !

This is mainly questions/complaints to DEC people, but I think it is
something that is relevant to many people in the alpha-digital-unix
(formerly alpha-osf) community. So here I go:

1. LVM is scheduled for retirement by DEC and is bundled, i.e not licensed.
With LVM you can put in lots of disks in a volumegroup and have many
different logical volumes available in several volumegroups. Also mirroring
can be done.

2. As far as I understand, the administration tools for such environments
after converting to LSM (you have to if you plan to keep the existing
configuration after LVM retirement) are then licensed.

3. This means that if you already have taken LVM in use you will be forced
to buy an additional license if you want to keep your existing
configuration, and the original configuration was initally free of cost !!!

4. If this is right (I hope not :-() this is morally (and legally ??)
highly questionable.
One cannot give something away for free and then after a while come and say
"Hey, I was only joking, of course it costs money. You'd better pay or I
will make sure your present will only be available in pieces".

Comments/followups are highly welcomed. Summary will follow.
